The HIV BioBank was created in 2004 as a biological sample bank with the mission of contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge about HIV infection.  To achieve this goal, the HIV BioBank provides regulated sample storage under necessary conditions to guarantee their validity for any present or future research projects that arise as the understanding of this pathology advances. 

The BioBank is located in the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón where support is provided for the basic maintenance of some of the available infrastructure. 

The HIV BioBank possesses the certification of quality under  Regulation UNE-EN-ISO 9001:2008. Systems of quality management. Requirements.  The UNE-EN-ISO 9001:2008 is a regulation for implementing the Systems of Quality Management that has permitted the standardization and documentation of all the procedures and tasks carried out in the HIV BioBank.

The BioBank currently receives and processes blood and biopsy samples.  The storage and cryopreservation of blood, plasma, cells for physiological studies, DNA and tissues are done in order to provide researchers with samples in the future.
To perform this work, the HIV BioBank possesses a highly qualified team specialized in carrying out these functions.
